Leadgen SystemsOutbound, built to be owned

The Guide

Read this before you buy any outbound.

A plain field guide to reaching buyers who do not know you yet. It is the way we think, written down. Take what is useful, even if you never talk to us.

Part one

The four roads, honestly.

Outbound, content, referrals and paid. Every new customer you have ever won came down one of these. The useful question is which ones you have paved and which are still dirt.

Referrals feel free, and they are the best leads you will ever get. They are also impossible to plan. Content compounds, but slowly, and only if someone keeps writing. Paid works when you already know your buyer to the job title. Outbound is the road you can point. You choose the company, the person and the moment.

Most established companies run one road well and call it a strategy. The fix is rarely to do more of the same. It is to open a second road and make the two feed each other.

Part two

Write to one person.

Here is a test for any outreach you send or are sold. Take the message and imagine it landing with a different buyer at a different company. If it still works, it was not written for anyone.

A message written for one person starts with reading. What does their company make? What changed there recently? What does someone in that seat worry about on a Tuesday? The message should only make sense to them.

It should ask for little. One question, one reason, an easy way to say no. And a person on your side should read it before it goes, because tools are good at research and poor at judgment.

Fewer messages, each one deserved. That is the whole discipline.

Part three

What buyers check before they reply.

A good message earns a look, and the look goes straight to your website and your people. If the site reads like a brochure, the conversation stops there.

So outbound needs a layer of authority behind it. A site that answers the questions a careful buyer has. Some writing and video that show how your people think. A little press, earned rather than bought.

There is a newer check too. Buyers now ask AI tools who they should talk to. Those tools answer from what is written about you in public. If nothing is, you are not on the list, however good you are.

Part four

Read your own map.

Draw the four roads and mark each one honestly: running, idle, or never opened. Then ask where a buyer who has never heard of you would first meet your name. If the answer is a trade show or a friend of a friend, you have a network, and the map shows you where a system would go.

We will draw this map for you if you would rather not do it alone. It is short, it is free, and it is written about your company, not lifted from a template.
